It’s Amazing What you Can Do When you Don’t Know you Can’t Do it
Posted by Vernon
Scott Miller asked:

When I was 19 I got my start on the radio in Creston Iowa, they didn’t have a full time opening, but I desperately wanted to work on the radio, so I was a part time salesperson and part time on air personality.

What I really wanted, was to be a sportscaster; one day I overheard two guys talking about this radio station that had broadcast high school wrestling. Sounded interesting, so I decided that our radio station should broadcast an upcoming high school wrestling tournament. I convinced my boss that this was a great idea and we sold every available commercial in less than a week. Advertisers loved the idea, I made a little money on the advertising sales and what was more important to me, I got to broadcast the event.

About 2 weeks before the tournament I called the guy that had already broadcast high school wrestling and asked him how he did it. That makes sense doesn’t it? You don’t have to know how to do everything that you want to do in life, just find somebody who has already done it, and do what they did!

When he told me what he did, I started to panic. What I didn’t know was that he didn’t really broadcast the entire two-day event! He just did a few reports, live from the tournament. Well that may have worked for him but we sold so many commercials the only way we could get them all in was to broadcast live for about 18 hours! I told the guy what I had to do, since we had sold so many ads - I asked this guy, that had been in the radio business for years what he would do and he said, - look for another job!

I was in a pickle and I knew it. If I went to the station manager and told her that I couldn’t do it, I knew I was toast, my incredible broadcasting career would end right there in Creston Iowa. So I did the only thing I could think of, I started to figure out how to do something, that to my knowledge, had never been done before. I was going to broadcast high school wrestling on the radio for 18 hours.

The funny thing is, we did it, and it was awesome. I needed help and believe me I asked for it. I didn’t know that many people in Creston, but I asked for help from everybody, I had to, if this thing didn’t happen I could lose my job.

Some people, actually ALMOST EVERYBODY that I talked to said it couldn’t be done, that I was crazy for even thinking about doing it and that nobody has ever done such a thing before. Who did I think I was?

Looking back almost 30 years later it still blows me away that when faced with what most people would consider insurmountable odds, I didn’t beg for my job, I figured out how to do my job to the best of my ability. Some would say that because of ignorance, I overheard something and didn’t really have the whole story, because of that ignorance on fire, I’m a young guy and I can do it attitude, I attempted to do something that had never been done.

What would have happened if I had all the facts? If I had talked to those guys and said who did it and how did they do it, - I wouldn’t have even tried.

When faced with those same circumstances what would you have done? What would you do if faced with those circumstances right now? What seems impossible in your life right now? Have you been told that you couldn’t do something? Did you accept what somebody else told you?

Sometimes we have too much information from too many sources and sometimes those sources don’t know what they’re talking about.

If I had gotten all the information before I went to my boss we would probably have done a few reports and nothing groundbreaking would have occurred. It really is amazing what you can do, when you don’t know, you can’t do it.

There are things that you would like to do in your life right now that you probably won’t even think about doing because somebody has already told you that it can’t be done! Why do we listen to those people?

Make it a habit to surround yourself with people who lift you up. Don’t concern yourself with what negative people have to say. Believe! Have faith. It’s amazing what you can do when you don’t know you can’t do it.

To be Lucky, be Prepared
Posted by Vernon
RoiceKrueger asked:

I remember the exact moment I learned the principle of preparing for luck.

I was on the wrestling team. Now, if there’s one thing I can tell you about any sport, it is that wrestling is probably the sport that has the least luck. There are only two people out on the mat, so you cannot blame it on your teammates, your mother, your father, or your coach. And guess what? There is no weather because we do the whole thing indoors, so you can’t say, “It was raining” or “It was snowing.” It makes sense to say wrestling is the sport with the least luck.

On our team were two world champions; one of them had been a world champion five times. We also had five people who were national champions, and most of them had been national champions five years in a row. It was an amazing team. One of these wrestlers was a guy by the name of John.

John had never been defeated in any high school wrestling competition that I could remember, because he was a national champion. There was nobody locally who could touch him.

He would go out, pin them, and go home. The next match he would do it all over again: pin them and go home.

One day, we went for a match with our biggest perennial rival. John went out on the mat, and about a minute and 30 seconds into the match he tried to execute a particular move. He rolled over, and his opponent caught him halfway through his roll. He was pinned instantly!

The match was over.

I remember on the bus on the way home, one of our teammates tried to comfort John by saying, “Oh, he just got lucky.” And John said, “That’s so stupid. The opportunity presented itself, and he exploited it.”

We used to have this big sign in our wrestling room that the coach had put there: “Luck is what happens when opportunity meets preparation.”

John’s opponent was prepared to exploit this opportunity. The odds of beating John were not strong, and he knew it.

But he paid attention for the right opportunity to present itself, and he defeated and pinned a five-time national champion.

In other words, the real message is “Be prepared!” It’s not just finding the opportunity; you have to be prepared to seize it.

The Undertaker
Posted by Vernon
Dan Celentano asked:

Let me say up front that I am not a fan of professional wrestling. However, I was impressed with one of the wrestlers I met. Let me explain: A friend of mine who oversees the arena where the wrestlers wrestle had some extra tickets and gave them to me to use for the kids I bring to my ranch. A few nights later the kids and I went to the match. Towards the end of the match, my friend came to where we were sitting and asked me if the kids would like to meet some wrestler named THE UNDERTAKER. Of course the kids wanted to meet this guy so we all followed the man to the basement of the arena and into an empty room. Among other people in the room was this skinny, sickly, 9 year old boy sitting in a wheel chair with his mother standing behind him. Suddenly this BIG, giant of man comes to the doorway. It was THE UNDERTAKER. The man was so big he had to duck to get through the door. He immediately sees the little boy and walks slowly towards him. The boy looks at this big man walking towards him and begins to vigorously shake in his wheel chair. So much so you can hear the chair rattle and see small droplets of sweat form on his forehead. THE UNDERTAKER gets to the boy and then paused a moment. You could have heard a pin drop. Everyone in the room was expecting him to say something like “I am THE UNDERTAKER and I’m going to body slam you.” If he did that, no body would have thought twice about it because projecting a fierce image is how he makes his money. Instead of doing this, THE UNDERTAKER kneels down on one knee and puts his arm around the boy. His assistant then brings over an UNDERTAKER T shirt. THE UNDERTAKER gently lays the shirt out on the boys chest but the boy is shaking so much that the shirt falls to his knees. The UNDERTAKER gently brings it up to his chest once again, smoothes it out, and waits for a reaction. The patience in this man was incredible. The boy gradually stops shaking, then slowly looks up to this giant of a man who is still on one knee. The UNDERTAKER makes eye contact with the boy and then flashes a smile. I bet I am the only one to see the Undertaker smile. The boy slowly forces a smiles back. The UNDERTAKER genitally pulls the boy towards him as the boy rests his head on the UNDERTAKER’S chest. The kid was in heaven. Here he was resting his head on the chest of his hero. Life couldn’t get any better.

Now, why do I like this guy so much? Because instead of keeping up his image to impress everyone in the room and maybe scare the heck out of the little boy, he chose to show compassion and respect instead. And, as I said before, showing respect to those who are weaker than you doesn’t diminish your reputation but rather enhances it. The compassion, the gentleness, the respect this UNDERTAKER guy showed to that little boy surely enhanced his reputation in the eyes of those in the room that day. It sure did in my eyes. Heck man, I almost want to watch wrestling…..NAAAAA.

Angels are Ever Present to Guide Us on our Journey
Posted by Vernon
Hamza Davis asked:

The Bible has much to say about an curtained world that is deeper real than the conspicuous kingdom we currently operate in - within ‘fleshly tents’ that we know of as ‘our bodies.’ This realm comprises of a commonwealth of light & of a kingdom of darkness that is perpetually at battle. How numerous people envision the effects of this particular & individual dominion on our everyday, breathing, walking around lives?

This is a province not apparent by our physical eyes. Specifically, the sphere of God is a rarefied commonwealth & not perceptible because God is not distinguishable. God is Himself, Spirit. Jesus Christ Himself said of His own commonwealth: “the commonwealth of God is within you.” Luke 17:21.

‘Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not apparent. By faith we conceive that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are perceptible were not made of things which are detectable.’ Heb. 11:1 & 3.

“‘Then He (Jesus) will also say to those on the left hand, ‘depart from Me, you cursed, into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil & his angels:’” Matt 25:41

‘For we do not wrestle against flesh & blood, but principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against rarefied hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.’ Eph. 6:12

The above scripture provides quite a image for us, highlighting the systematic nature of the invisible realm & the descending order of authority of specified invisible beings with varying levels of responsibility. Beyond ‘flesh & blood’ we wrestle principalities, powers, rulers & hosts of wickedness. To ‘wrestle’ means to fight by gripping & pushing at times using certain holds to force the opponent onto the mat.

Paul the Apostle had the incident numerous times of being gripped & pushed with specific holds. He knew number one-hand of being ‘on the mat.’ He had been shipwrecked, stoned, beaten, whipped, imprisoned, left for spiritless & incarcerated. So it is for every believer who will in their lifetime see resistance that comes in the form of principalities & powers in the invisible dimension.

As there are principalities & powers, so too do the angels have archangels & higher powers. In God’s tremendous order, He uses the prayers of His on people to restrain malevolent activity & to facilitate the activities of angelic powers to confront & overcome otherworldly hosts of wickedness.

Demonstrations of this is very crystal clear in the book of Daniel 10:10 -14 when Daniel’s prayers were initially resisted by an evil angel in the heavens whom was acting out his assignment: to hold the captive Israelites from returning to their homeland. Daniel’s prayers were ushered through with the assistance of Michael, a ruling archangel:

‘He raised me to my hands & knees & then said “Daniel, your God thinks very highly of you, & he has sent me. So stand up & pay imminent attention.” I stood trembling, while the angel spoke:

“Daniel, don’t be afraid! God has listened to your prayers since the basic day you humbly asked for understanding and he has sent me here. The guardian angel of Persia has withstood me for twenty-one days. Michael, who is one of the strongest guardian angels, came to rescue me from the kings of Persia. Now I have come here to give you another vision about what will happen to your people in the future.’”

This insightful passage highlights for us the powerful influence that angelic beings exercise over national issues & the affairs of ordinary men. Noteworthy also is the premise of imbibing Gods own people with visions. How amazing for us to realize that our earthly struggles in the temporal realm are often a reflection of vigorous conflict in the heavenly, eternal province.

How tremendous to know that the angels, our invisible hosts perpetuate a myriad ministry, as, described in Ps. 103:20, 21 being service, facilitating his plans, to heed the voice of Gods own as spoken through the believers on earth, to minister, to do His will.

‘Praise the Lord, you angels of his, you mighty creatures who carry out divine plans, listening for each & every command. Yes, praise the Lord, you armies of angels who serve him & do his will! Ps. 103:20, 21.

A approved Psalm & prayer for protection & solace for bountious is Psalm 91 which offers much comfort on the personal activity of guardian angels.

‘For He orders His angels to protect you wherever you go.’ Ps. 91:11

Angels known as Seraphim are declared in Isaiah 6:2. These are consistent in that Seraphim glorify God, hover over the throne of God & supervise the worship in Heaven.

‘Hovering around him were mighty seraphim, each with six wings. With two wings they covered their faces, with two they covered their feet, and with the remaining two they flew.’ Isaiah 6:2

Angels known as Cherubim appear as divine guards in the scriptures as in the case of the Garden of Eden. They also appear in conjunction with the presence & departure of the glory of God.

‘He drove the man out, and at the east of the garden of Eden he stationed the cherubim and a flaming sword that turned every way to guard the way to the tree of life.’ Gen.3:24

Jesus Christ Himself was in the presence of angels at His birth, at the forty-day fast, at His betrayal, at the Resurrection, His Ascension to heaven, & His Second Coming. Satan Himself was an angel whom fell into pride.

Angels escort & attend to believers into God’s presence at death & also gather His own to Christ at His marvellous return.

‘The poor man died, and angels took him to the place of honor next to Abraham.’ Luke 16:22

Immediately present in our midst are the extensive work & ministry of angels: free-willed spirit beings who live eternally - possessors of superhuman intelligence & power functioning with infinite purposes - are our everyday, invisible hosts - a steadfast & very present reality.
